Unleashing Love: Focus in the Fire

favoredgrace:

We were told we would have troubles in this world. Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, sometimes we are thrown into the fire. But here’s the thing: with our eyes on The Lord, we are meant to come out of the fire not even smelling of the smoke, as if the fire never even existed, because it did…

The Truth Behind “Hope and Change” and the 2012 Election

It’s been three weeks since the presidential election, and now that I’ve had time to ponder over the meaning behind it, I would like to give my input on what it all means.

One thing is clear- we no longer live in a Christian society. The so called “silent majority” was non-existent for a second consecutive election. The majority did indeed turn out to vote, and it was not Christians. We are now the minority in America.

It is very telling that the majority of Americans would vote for a man whose main punch line is “Hope and Change”. A society who in one breath screams “YOLO” votes for hope in the voting booth. This should not be overlooked. A society that has been pushing the naturalist and postmodern agenda for quite some time now is seeking hope in a presidential candidate. Fortunately for President Obama, it worked. Hope may sound abstract, fleeting, shallow, and without substance (such as the motto “YOLO”), but if one were to actually discover a true source of hope, it would result in concrete change. Americans obviously desire for true hope, otherwise they would not have voted for Barack Obama. What the 2012 Election really said is this- Americans are wrestling with an identity crisis. On the one hand, they want moral relativism and tolerance, but on the other hand, they want change. They want hope. They want something deeper, something more satisfying, something more concrete than they have right now because their current state of being is shallow and empty.

But what does it mean for the Christian minority? Christians should have seen this one coming. The election results are really not surprising. It was a confirmation of 08’ and the secularist trend that America is undergoing. Christians who believe in objective moral values and objective meaning to life are now in the minority. Moral tolerance and subjectivism now dominates our culture. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s ok. Life is simply what you make of it, even though we’re all just a bunch of advanced primates placed here by random, meaningless molecular activity. The future looks grim for believers. I will admit that I was deeply dissatisfied with the election results. But I do not think it is too late for our nation.  In light of Scripture, this should be of no surprise to us. Jesus Christ himself said that this world would bring persecution for bearing witness to his cause.

And Jesus said to him,” Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” – Matthew 8:20

In my humble opinion, I believe the body needs to redirect its efforts in the culture war. The only way to change election results is to change the hearts of people who vote. It is clear now that the tactic of digging a trench, holding our ground, and sticking our nose up in the air in opposition does not change people or their decision on Election Day. The Church has basically dug in and cowered behind the walls of churches since the 60’s. The result is what we see now- cultural division as it pertains to worldviews and moral poverty.   The body needs to stop “standing out” against the proponents of liberal secularism with stubborn finger-pointing. We need to stop waging war in the flesh against those of the flesh, who are deceived outside of Christ and are not our true enemies. Instead, we need to start combating the true Enemy, the Deceiver, in love through the power of the Holy Spirit. We need to stand out against the ideas and truth claims of liberal secularism themselves in truth and in love. Love changes people. Not elections. Not candidates. Love does. Who is the source of everlasting love? Jesus Christ. Who is the source of true hope, which this nation desires but cannot seem to find? Jesus Christ. We have a commission. Americans have given their plea, though misguided. It’s time for the body to realize this and act. Instead of angrily trying to shut them out, we must share with them the true hope that we already have and know. That’s when election results will change. That’s when this country will change. The good news for Christians is this- we have already won. Our victory is set in stone. God’s will is sovereign, and He is in control. The only reason Barack Obama is in office today is because God allowed it to be so. There is hope for us. We have true hope, “…In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”(John 16:33).

The truth of the 2012 election is that the majority of Americans have realized that something isn’t right, and they are now searching for hope. Contrary to popular belief, they are closer to finding God than ever before. Sooner or later- people will begin to realize that nothing in this world can provide them with true hope. They will realize that hope is not found in a candidate or an election. Time does not fix anything. But it does allow one to realize that the “same old same old” isn’t working. One day, whether it is 10 years from now or 100 or on that Final Day, they will have nowhere else to look but up.

Jesus, Set me free!

O, Jesus, My Lord and Savior, Set me free!

   I am unworthy.

     I am full of pride.

     I am full of lust.

   I am unworthy.

O, Jesus, My Lord and Savior, Set me free!

   I cannot break these chains.

     I am a cheater.

     I am a liar.

     I am a thief.

   I cannot break these chains.

O, Jesus, My Lord and Savior, Set me free!

You are the source of all worth.

     You are humble.

     You are pure.

You are the source of all worth.

O, Jesus, My Lord and Savior, Set me free!

   You have broken my chains!

     You are joy.

     You are love.

     You are life.

   You have broken my chains!

O, Jesus, My Lord and Savior, You have set me free!

May Grace abound forever and ever, Amen!

I want a revival. Holy Spirit, convict this nation. Break us down and bring us to our knees. Humble us. Heal our land. 2 Chronicles 7:14. Please. I’m sick of the flesh. I’m sick of death. I’m sick of foolishness, materialistic worthlessness, and purposeless bickering. Especially among the Saints. Please. Revive us. We desperately need You.
